Hear Me Roar

The kid loves me, what can I say? All others disappear the minute I enter the room. I am magnetic.

Jen is trying to teach Teddy appropriate petting, but the kid still grabs and pulls. So, right now, I just tantalize him by walking close. Just out of reach.

Opposable Thumbs?

Poor kid doesn't know how to use his opposable thumbs yet. It's just painful to watch.

Snowmaggedon

Snow is humiliating, wasteful, and undignified. What do I mean?
First, it's humiliating. Just look at this horrendous outfit Teddy is forced to wear.

Second, it's wasteful. Sam ruined a perfectly good Amish hat; he waterlogged charcoal; and he froze a carrot, thus rendering it inedible.

Finally, snow is undignified. Need I say more?

Hunting Skills III

I was happy to see that vacation was no excuse to break from the training schedule. Sam worked on his climbing skills;

camouflage - which obviously needs to be explained better;

general upper body strength and swinging;

and familiarity with multiple terrains.

But we don't want to be so focused on the practice that we miss opportunities to act. This is what we in the business call "a teachable moment." We could have used this squirrel to talk about camouflage, to work on pouncing, or even to discuss the encroachment of human habitation on that of animals. Instead, Jen took a photo. Ug.

Hunting Skills II

All of Teddy's "tummy time" is truly paying off. It teaches him to stay low to the ground while stalking.

Hunting Skills

Sam attacking a dinosaur
It looks like Christmas vacation was chock-a-block with hunting skills - age appropriate ones, of course. So, we see Sam learning how to stealthily drop onto the back of an unsuspecting ... dinosaur. Okay, the prey itself is unrealistic, but the skill is the important part. Soon, Sam can use the technique to take down a fawn, then an impala.
Sam luring the ducks to their death
Water fowl are highly nutritious. Steer clear of those gulls, however. Chewy. Here we see Sam "feeding" the birds. He thinks it's simple urban park fun, but throwing breadcrumbs actually develops the lightning-quick reflexes necessary to grab a duck by the neck and then, well, wring it.

Teddy learning about the edible animal kingdom
Teddy is starting out very slow. Uncle E instructs him in the animal kingdom. Teddy gets to put appropriate animals in his mouth, like the D for duck and the A for antelope. When he comes upon an inappropriate or dangerous animal, he gets pinched. Pinch for the K for kangaroo. He'll learn fast.
